Trivia
Production
- The core connections between Aang and the Traveler are that they are both world-traveling heroes who are the only ones in their world capable of manipulating all of the elements of their world. In addition:
- Despite looking rather young, both are actually hundreds of years old, yet still inexperienced due to having been asleep for an extremely long period of time after a distressing moment (Aang froze himself in an iceberg to save himself from drowning, while the Traveler was put into a deep slumber after being attacked by Asmoday), which occurred during an attempt to run away from something they feared (Aang ran away from home in fear of the impending war, while the Traveler and their sibling attempted to escape Teyvat after the Cataclysm). These events would be directly related to the genocide and destruction of a nation out of the fear of their power (right after Aang was frozen, the Air Nomads were attacked and wiped out by the Fire Nation, which was originally for the purpose of killing him, while the Cataclysm involved Celestia's destruction of Khaenri'ah due to the Traveler's sibling), leading to a global conflict (the genocide of the Air Nomads marked the beginning of the Hundred Year War, while the Cataclysm led to the creation of the Abyss Order and the Fatui, who began causing worldwide conflict).
- After they awoke, they found themselves in a completely unfamiliar environment due to the world having drastically changed while they were asleep.
- Both of the worlds they live in are comprised of multiple nations, each one being based around an element and real life cultures. They journeyed through all of these nations for their personal goals (mastering the elements to save the world and saving their sibling, respectively) with help from others (via bending masters and the Seven, respectively) but along the way, they found themselves having to save each nation from various kinds of turmoil or conflict usually stemming from the conflict that began during their sleep, leading to them becoming world-famous heroes while also mastering the element of each nation they visited.
- Both discovered along the way that the other nations were under attack by one of the nations (the Fire Nation and Snezhnaya, respectively) — which would happen to be the last one they visited — due to their tyrannical leader (Ozai and the Tsarista, respectively), whom they would have to stop to restore peace to the world.
- Both initially mastered air (Airbending and Anemo, respectively) from a nation that values freedom (the Air Nomads and Mondstadt, respectively) before the other elements, which they use to help them glide with their specialized gliding tools (the Airbender staff and the Wing Glider, respectively).
- Both learned to manipulate earth from a China-inspired nation (the Earth Kingdom and Liyue, respectively), and learned to manipulate fire from a Mesoamerican-inspired civilization (the Sun Warriors and Natlan, respectively).
- Both have visited otherworldly realms existing parallel to and exerting supernatural influence upon their world (the Spirit World and the Abyss, respectively).
- Both are often accompanied by a small, flying friend (Momo and Paimon, respectively), whom they met shortly after they reawakened.
- This episode was confirmed during the Save Death Battle Kickstarter, having been the $700,000 stretch goal reward alongside another unrevealed episode but being later changed to the $350,000 goal (which had already been reached) upon the removal of the documentary stretch goal.
- Interestingly, the episode was originally announced as Avatar Aang VS Traveler Aether, which suggested that Aether would be the primary focus of the episode before it was changed to the current title and Aether's render was swapped for Lumine's. As of now, it's currently unknown which of the two will be visually represented in the episode.
