Interlude
M-814/The Fearsome Ginyu Special Task Force - Dragon Ball Z by Shunsuke Kikuchi |
Ben: Bounty hunters. Their sole purpose is to hunt... for... bounty. And reap their rewards while their prey lies dying in a pool of blood. Boba Fett, slayer of Jedi and most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy. Samus Aran, the bounty hunter who destroyed an entire species. Two different warriors from two different universes, but if these assassins were to duke it out in a no-holds-barred battle to the death...
WOULD
WIN?
Ben: To find out, we will analyze these two warriors in depth; their strengths, weaknesses, weapons, armor, and skills, and throw both warriors into a virtual battlefield which only one will leave alive.
Boba Fett
Ben: Boba Fett is known for his ruthlessness, cunning, and brute force. But it's his large arsenal of devastation that takes down his prey.
He wears Mandalorian armor, forged of nearly indestructible durasteel containing a micro-energy field which greatly disperses impacts. And it definitely makes him look pretty frickin' cool.
His primary weapon of choice is his shoulder-strapped EE-3 carbine rifle, an extremely accurate and powerful weapon which Fett often cradles like a child. That's messed up... but cool. His wrist gauntlets house a flamethrower with a reach of five meters, a fibercord whip, and numerous concussion and stun missiles.
His Z-6 jetpack allows him to battle with both hands in mid-air and contains a single anti-vehicle homing rocket. In short, Fett is a human Swiss Army knife, but much more dangerous. With these weapons he has killed many criminals, politicians, and Jedi. He has even held his own against Darth Vader... twice. He battled Mace Windu to a draw when he was 12 years old and became leader of the Mandalorians after the Galactic Civil War.
And yet his awesome streak is inconsistent, as he has fallen into the Sarlacc three times. Three! And the Sarlacc isn't exactly running around looking for snacks. It's a freakin' hole in the ground!
Still, even with his inconsistency, Boba Fett is a whole new meaning of deadly.
Darth Vader: No disintegrations.
Boba Fett: As you wish.
Samus Aran
Ben: Samus Aran was infused with bird-like Chozo DNA at a young age, increasing her strength, speed, and athletic ability far beyond those of a normal human being.
She wears the Power Suit, shielding her entire body without restricting any movement whatsoever. Its only fault: it makes her look like a dude...
Her primary weapon, the Arm Cannon, has acquired numerous upgrades over the years. The basic Power Beam... can be seen as a pea shooter with a pathetic range. But when charged, the beam can be powerful enough to blast an opponent into oblivion!
The Arm Cannon also contains an Ice Beam, a Grapple Beam, and a plethora of seeking and Super Missiles. Samus controls the skies with a powerful and speedy Screw Attack, and when there's trouble on the battlefield, she can curl into Morph Ball mode and slip away unnoticed.
Samus' most powerful weapon would definitely be her large supply of Power Bombs, which create massive explosions of incredible power.
In Samus' past, she has made herself known to be the bounty hunter capable of pulling off impossible missions, fighting massive beasts and even her own clone. However, while she is very skilled, she always seems to somehow lose all her power-ups and upgrades at the beginning of every mission. Huh. Somebody needs to get this chick a purse.
Prelude
Ben: Alright, the combatants are set. It's time to end any debate and find out...
WOULD
WIN?
Death Battle
Samus is shown flying through space in her gunship. Suddenly, Boba Fett's ship, the Slave I, shoots at her gunship, throwing it out of orbit and landing on Earth, where it crash lands somewhere in the middle of a green field. Samus gets out of her ship as Boba hovers down to where Samus landed.

Samus shoots her Power Beams, which fade out almost instantly without even reaching her opponent. Boba responds with a few shots from his blaster, but Samus jumps in the air, firing a missile at Fett which hits him. When she lands, Boba unleashes his flamethrower on her. Samus jumps back and shoots another missile which Boba dodges by using his jet pack. However, Samus goes after him using her Screw Attack and eventually hits him, which forces him to the ground.
As Samus lands, Boba shoots missiles at her. He then fires his anti-vehicle homing missile, which Samus escapes as she goes into Morph Ball mode. As Fett searches for his enemy, Samus, still in Morph Ball mode, sneaks behind him and plants a Power Bomb near his feet.

The bomb explodes, heavily damaging Fett. With his suit having withstood the blast, Boba sees Samus and fires his flamethrower at her, though the flames fail to reach her. Samus responds by freezing him using her Ice Beam. She then moves toward the frozen bounty hunter and begins charging her Arm Cannon. With the charge at its apex and Fett's body slightly moving as he tries to break free of the ice, Samus positions her cannon toward his head.
Samus: You're mine.
Before Fett can escape, Samus fires her Charge Beam point-blank, sending him flying.

Ben: Well, Fett put up a tough fight, and his armor's micro-energy field even withstood Samus' Power Bomb, but in the end, it was Samus' superior technology and athletic skill that won the battle.
While her basic Power Beam failed her, she managed to put her Chozo DNA to work by jumping and dodging around Fett's offenses. Boba Fett, who relies more on cunning and brute force, just didn't have the means necessary to catch Samus, and got frustrated to the point of firing his homing rocket, which is designed to hit vehicles, not people.
Since Samus and her Power Suit is about four times smaller than the average vehicle, there was only a one-in-four chance that the rocket would actually hit. And that's only if Samus was standing still. As her regular limber self, the hit rate of Fett's rocket dramatically dropped to approximately only an 8% chance of hitting. After the rocket was fired, Samus maneuvered around Fett, setting a trap with a well-placed Power Bomb.
Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!
Ben: Fett may be ruthless, but his trap-sensing skills just aren't like Admiral Ackbar's, and so the bomb hit. Samus then used a combination of ice and charge beams to put the Mandalorian bounty hunter out of commission. The winner is Samus Aran.
Trivia
Production
- The core connections between Boba Fett and Samus Aran are that they are both bounty hunters who operate across the entire galaxy and possess futuristic technology, armor (Mandalorian armor and the Power Suit, respectively), weaponry, and spaceships (Slave I, II, III, and IV, and various gunships, respectively). Both are extremely skilled and experienced, having visited and fought many alien planets and species and are often hired by a large galactic organization to take down targets (the Galactic Empire and the Galactic Federation, respectively) as a result. In addition:
- Both have been genetically modified (Boba is a clone of Jango Fett, while Samus was infused with Chozo DNA).
- Both witnessed their parents (Jango Fett and both Virginia and Rodney Aran, respectively) die in front of them at a young age, which changed their lives forever.
- This matchup, along with Death Battle as a whole, was inspired by Monty Oum's Haloid, an animation depicting a fight between Samus and Nicole-458 from Halo/Dead or Alive.
- There are many differences between this pilot episode and its eventual debut as Death Battle, namely:
- The show being titled "Who Would Win?" instead of "Death Battle".
- A singular host played by Ben Singer (who goes unnamed during the pilot itself, but would go on to become Wiz) doing the analyses rather than two.
- The graphics for the analyses being different.
- The animation's choreography being slightly different.
- The background of the fight being photos of the old ScrewAttack headquarters' backyard.
- Samus having a different sprite.
- Boba dying by being sent flying into the air rather than being decapitated.
- This episode was originally unaired, only being shown publicly for the first time during the preshow of the livestream premiere of the remastered episode.
