Boomstick is one of the two main co-hosts of Death Battle, alongside Wiz. He was also the host of DBX before getting replaced by Ringmaster in Season 4, but returned as a temporary co-host in Season 6, and co-hosts Death Race, alongside Wiz.

He is a redneck who typically serves as a dumber and cruder foil to Wiz, but is also surprisingly knowledgeable in certain fields, particularly regarding weapons and explosions.

History

When Boomstick was a mere kid, his father, who is heavily implied to be Sarge, "ran out to join the army and never came back".[1] Without a father, Boomstick bonded with his mother instead, even training under her.[2][3] He would also meet and become close friends with Ringmaster in college.[4] Eventually, Boomstick met Wizard, although he forgot his pants on the first day, making a bad first impression.[5] Regardless, the duo would go on to create and host Death Battle from 2010 onward.

But even though he now had two close friends, Boomstick still had a hole in his heart left by his absent father. After receiving a letter supposedly from his father that was delivered by a green man in a zoot suit[6], as well as an anonymous tip from a man in red, Boomstick and his friends would search for his father. Though the search was unsuccessful, a consultation from his mother made Boomstick realize that he didn't need his father, as his friends had already filled the hole he left.[7]

Appearance

Boomstick is a stocky man, who wears a red and white trucker cap, a half-tucked, beer-stained t-shirt, covered by a red plaid coat with ripped sleeves. He has a mustache and a stubble beard. His right leg has been dismembered and replaced with a shotgun, and his left arm has a tattoo which says "Moma".

Personality

Boomstick, based on his personality and immaturity, may come across as a bit of moron, but he usually proves to be far smarter than he looks, especially when it comes to guns, as it's him who goes into all the science of them instead of Wiz. In the 100th episode, Boomstick was also able to accurately determine the monetary value of a solid gold Chain Chomp within seconds of Wiz calculating its total weight, without any assistance from Wiz whatsoever, to the surprise of his co-host.

Boomstick is also incredibly vulgar and risque as opposed to his calculative and serious co-host. He often expresses his attraction to the several of the "hot" female combatants (an undesirable trait the community refers to as "Horny Boomtick"), and in Gray VS Esdeath, he seems to be oddly sexually attracted to Esdeath's "craziness". However, this trait died down substantially over the seasons.

He happens to have a sensitive side, as seen when Aerith's death was brought up in Yang VS Tifa, when Optimus Prime's death in The Transformers: The Movie was discussed in his analysis preview for Optimus Prime VS Gundam, and in the post-fight-analysis of Tanjiro VS Jonathan Joestar.

Boomstick is apparently a bird expert but states he hates chickens after a bunch of them supposedly killed his grandfather.

Boomstick is an experienced hunter and frequently mentions his hatred for squirrels, which he has a history of cooking and eating. It is likely that his mother Mama Boomstick influenced Boomstick's hunting experience.

He is shown to be easily tricked if he thinks he can get a superpower, like when Wiz tricked him into eating fire so he could get fire powers like Natsu.

    • In the scripts, Boomstick is referred to as "Boom" for short.
    • Chad has revealed that when he started doing the Boomstick voice, it hurt his throat badly, and he couldn't do the voice for a long period of time. He has since changed how he does the voice so he can do it for longer periods of time.
    • Boomstick is known for his infamously frequent expressions of sadness over being abandoned by his father, who is heavily implied to be Sarge from Red vs. Blue, though no jokes on the matter have been made since its culmination at the end of Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man (outside of Popeye's analysis preview).
      • In Meta VS Carolina, the two get along well, with Sarge saying Boomstick reminds him of the son he never wanted and Boomstick saying Sarge reminds him of the father he never had, who never came back after running away to join the Army.
      • In Red VS Blue, he once again expressed fondness of Sarge, saying that "he seems like the kind of guy you could just have a catch with."
      • In Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man, it is once again implied that Sarge is his father, as after Boomstick and his mother have a conversation where she tells him he doesn't need to worry about who his father is, Sarge makes a small appearance mentioning that he recognized Boomstick's voice, wondering to himself if he has a son.
      • Boomstick made a cameo appearance in the Red vs. Blue spinoff series QvsA episode "Who Is The Best RvB Villain?," where he randomly calls Simmons and Grif and is heard tearfully calling Sarge the biggest villain of Red vs. Blue because he abandoned his child, implying Boomstick is now aware Sarge is his father.
    • He once claimed Mama Boomstick was apparently killed by a ghost that she hated who lived in their barn in Ichigo Kurosaki's analysis. However, this would be eventually contradicted with her appearance near the end of Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man, where she's very much still alive.
    • Boomstick has mentioned many times that he has several ex-wives, and constantly makes fun of their weight.
      • In Goro VS Machamp, Boomstick revealed that one of his ex-wives left him for a guy with four arms.
      • In Cole MacGrath VS Alex Mercer, he joked that he was married to his second ex-wife for five nanoseconds, as she was not a good listener. He also mentioned that his third ex-wife's boyfriend's stripper name is "Hunter Dirtnap", and in Alex Mercer's analysis preview, he wanted to call him because he was a good listener.
    • Boomstick is generally disapproving of Wiz making a pun, as he believes it's his thing. However, he has complimented Wiz's "Ace in the hole" pun that he made in Natsu VS Ace's post-analysis and had a friendly bear pun-off with him during Smokey Bear VS McGruff the Crime Dog that Boomstick ultimately won.
    • He believes that Link is a fairy and that Blastoise is the offspring of drunk turtles and tanks.
    • Boomstick seems to really like dinosaurs and thinks kittens are adorable.
    • In Yoshi VS Riptor, Boomstick had a pink car with flame detailing on it that was destroyed at the end of the fight.

      • In Death Race's second episode, he expressed sadness when he witnessed Optimus Prime committing suicide after he won through pure luck and brutality.

    • In Captain Marvel VS Shazam, it was pointed by Wiz that Boomstick's password is literally the word "password", albeit misspelled.
    • In Wario VS King Dedede, he mentioned that he went into Wiz's lab and created "The Windbreaker", which is just a whoopee cushion with various screws and lights attached to it. It can create a toxic cloud enough to make Wiz cough uncontrollably.
    • In Ben 10 VS Green Lantern, he apparently has an Omnitrix of his own. However, in Ben's analysis cutaway, he slammed on the Omnitrix so much that he became an alien abomination, though he turned back to normal shortly after through unknown means.
    • In Weiss VS Mitsuru, he experimented on past interns of Death Battle with explosions, and even made a chart on the types of explosions he tested. When Wiz got suspicious about the disappearance of the interns, Boomstick covered it up by giving Wiz a white fur coat.
      • In the same episode, it is also implied that Boomstick has successfully summoned a demon, has an empty bookshelf, and always carries fried chicken in his pockets.
    • The only film to ever make Boomstick cry was Johnny Cage's Tommy Scissorfists, as revealed in Johnny Cage VS Captain Falcon.
    • In Aang VS Edward Elric:
      • Boomstick claimed he was "Boomstick the Wet" (a "great waterbender") when a large ice block was "summoned" in front of Wiz and himself, and he "swam" through the same large ice block by leaping and landing on top of that block, making it crumble to pieces under his weight.
      • During Edward Elric's analysis, Boomstick claims that his shotgun leg was made from automail.
      • He made his upper body glow by "drinking a bunch of glowsticks", and claimed his liver had processed way worse than this.
      • He "used Destruction Alchemy" to destroy a watermelon held on Wiz's hands by slashing through it in one chop as Wiz explains the Destruction Alchemy of Edward Elric.
    • In Ghost Rider VS Lobo, he was not bothered by Ghost Rider's appearance. Rather, he was scared of Nicolas Cage in the Ghost Rider movie.
      • In the same episode, he once had a motorcycle he named "Roadhog" until he lit it on fire, though he plans on naming his next motorcycle "Bastich", as revealed in Lobo's analysis.
    • In Sasuke VS Hiei, Boomstick went to ninja school for a bit until he left after realizing that they don't use guns.
      • In the same episode, he punched Wiz so hard that it separated his spirit from his body.
    • In All Might VS Might Guy, he somehow can summon seafood with his California Roll and his Lobster Roll. When he did his Lobster Roll, however, he released a live lobster onto Wiz.
    • In Miles Morales VS Static, Boomstick presses a button on Wiz's Multiverse Manipulator, resulting in Boomstick changing into a version of himself from an alternate universe: Broomstick, who has a British accent and speaks in a verbose manner.

    • Miles Morales VS Static is the first episode where Boomstick didn't do the post-match pun, with the next being Macho Man VS Kool-Aid Man.

    • In Sanji VS Rock Lee, Boomstick accidentally drank Sanji's Raid Suit, as the canister had the beer coating by accident, and he didn't know if he needed to go to the bathroom or the hospital.
      • In the same episode, he showed that he was very skilled in the Drunken-Fist Style of Martial Arts, which he used on DUMMI.
    • In Broly's analysis preview, he plans on renaming his phallus "Gigantic Omega Storm", though it was previously named "Righteous Indignation", as revealed in Fox McCloud VS Bucky O'Hare.

      • In Scarlet Witch's analysis preview, he mentioned how he was the one who taught Boomstick how to ride a bike and speak in a frequency incomprehensible to mortals.

    • In Thor VS Vegeta, Boomstick has been shown to be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir.

    • In Super Friends Aquaman's analysis preview, it's revealed he can talk to beer. However, he does hear them screaming every time he takes a drink.

    • In Michael Myers' analysis preview, he ordered Jocelyn to release dogs onto trick-or-treaters who somehow found the Death Battle Lab.

    • In Sauron VS Lich King, he is shown to have possession of the One Ring, though immediately after admiring it, he ate it, saying it sounded delicious.

    • In Gogeta VS Vegito, having the seven Dragon Balls, his greatest wish is to see which fusion was the best, i.e. the same fight of the episode.

    • In Bill Cipher's analysis preview, it is revealed that one of the nightmares is to be at school naked in his childhood and that Wiz is his father who accompanies him to school.
    • In Satoru Gojo's analysis preview, it is revealed he has a step-uncle named Boomstick and everyone in his family has the same name.
    • In Galactus VS Unicron, it's revealed that Boomstick views everyone as beer.
    • It was confirmed by the ScrewAttack crew that, should Death Battle ever reach its final episode, the last fight will be a one-on-one match between Wiz and Boomstick.[9]
      • However, Ben Singer stated in 2022 during the 304th episode of DEATH BATTLE Cast that no matchup is 100% confirmed aside from Ruby VS Maka[10]. While this should include Wiz VS Boomstick, the crew has still discussed the episode several times since this Cast, treating it as if it was still the eventual series finale, which leaves its current stance questionable, especially after the announcement of Rooster Teeth being shut down by its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, on March 6th, 2024.[11] However, the matchup would notably be done as a Community Death Battle for DEATH BATTLE Cast's final episode under Rooster Teeth.
    • Both Wizard and Boomstick appear as cameos in Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures.
    • Boomstick made a cameo appearance at the start of the Batman VS Iron Man DBX, where he was as one of the crowd members in the auction for Piccolo as a father figure. He tried to cast a bid, but he was shot down by Ringmaster for having no money to do so.
