Interlude
Ringmaster: Welcome one and all to MY arena where you decide the outcome! No rules, only bloodshed! I am Ringmaster and this is the exhibitiooon!
Bits N Bytes
by Gavin Harrison |
Ringmaster: Ugh, look guys, real talk, uh, I've tried everyone I know, ugh, which admittedly is uh, Wiz, Boomstick, their robot, and a Dragon Ball Z villain, but I'm trying, I'm trying.
As the camera pans down to follow Ringmaster, Jocelyn is revealed to be standing on the arena's center stage.
Jocelyn: Hey Mar-, Ringmaster? I just got through my support call backlog. You've been blowing up my inbox for weeks.
Ringmaster: Jocelyn!? Wh-, somebody actually answered my calls!? Ahahahahaha!
Jocelyn: There was a lot of sobbing. I'm sure you know my performance credentials, but I also have an encyclopedic knowledge, and am a master of research of all-
Ringmaster: A-, t-, t-, you're in, please, just stop right there. Welcome aboard, J-dog! Everyone give it up for Jocelyn!
Goomba
Ringmaster: And what a time to join the team because today we're dealing with the rematch you've all been waiting for! The battle to determine the beastliest of Bowser's baddies! It's the Goomba VS the Koopa!
Jocelyn: Ohh. Okay. A bit teensy bit less climactic than I thought it was going to be.
Ringmaster: Ohohohoho! You have no idea what's in store!
Jocelyn: Actually, I do! The Goomba has to be one of the most biologically fascinating creatures we've ever come across! It seems to be some kind of sentient fungus with minor telekinetic abilities, allowing it to pick up and manipulate objects without making physical contact.
Ringmaster: And they're powerful enough to kill Mario in just one hit. Their essence is so evil that just by making physical contact, Mario will instantly drop dead!
An animation of a chibi Ringmaster runs into frame with a Goomba following it, before tripping, being touched by the Goomba and vanishing in a puff of smoke.
Ringmaster: Haha, just like my mother-in-law!
Jocelyn: Haha! Got 'em!
Ringmaster: It's a very serious condition, Jocelyn. I wish you wouldn't make light of it.
Jocelyn: Oh, uh, I'm so sorry... But, uh, you'll be sorry when the Goomba hops into its patented green shoe, allowing it to stomp its way through the Mushroom Kingdom unimpeded!
An animated chibi Ringmaster drops into frame in a large brown boot.
Jocelyn: Or grow wings and take to the skies and drop its own babies like carpet bombs!
We cut to Ringmaster and Jocelyn.
Ringmaster: Just like my mother-in-law.
Jocelyn: My condolences?
Ringmaster: Ah, it's alright. She's fictional, so I don't need pity.
Koopa
Ringmaster: What I need is the Koopa Troop! An elite spec-ops paramilitary group headed by the big bad Bowser himself and composed of demons spawned in his very image: the Koopa!
Jocelyn: They're so adorable! And much like real-life turtles, their shells are virtually impenetrable to predators, which in this case happens to be Mario's shoe. And Mario can kick entire castles like they were soccer balls.
An animated chibi Ringmaster kicks a soccer ball, sending it flying across the screen before coming back and hitting him in the back of his head.
Ringmaster: There's nothin' these little reptile bastards can't do! Drive go-karts, operate giant mechs, and even participate in professional sports! They might as well be geniuses, if not for the whole, uh, "walk off a cliff into imminent death" thing.
An animated chibi Ringmaster is seen walking parallel to a Koopa and falling into a pit alongside it.
Jocelyn: While green Koopas may be stupid enough to needlessly drop to their doom, red Koopas seem to be smarter. Some of them have even developed flight, proving a flexible backbone to Bowser's universe-conquering army!
Prelude
Ringmaster looks around, concerning Jocelyn as he does so.
Ringmaster: Can it be? No wanton violence, no psychotic episodes, no enraged cyborg geese?!
Jocelyn: I... don't know what you're talking about.
Ringmaster: And that's why you got this gig on lock.
Jocelyn: Only if I get a... floaty thing too.
Ringmaster: (gasp) Ugh... fine, everyone can fly if they want to. Just like our contenders! As always, you decide the outcome. Without further ado, let the exhibition BEGIIIN!!!
Exhibition
Where's My Hero
by Noah Sorota |
The fight begins inside one of Bowser's many airships, where several of his minions are seen walking around with nothing to do. In particular, a Goomba is walking with a cup of coffee in his non-existent hands before a Koopa Troopa, distracted by a video game he's playing, bumps into the bipedal mushroom, causing him to drop his cup. Angered, the Goomba tosses his ruined drink at the back of the offending Koopa's head, causing him to drop his game device and turn his attention at the mushroom before the Koopa gets caught off guard by menacing kanjis floating above the Goomba as it makes a face akin to Dio Brando. Nonplussed, the Koopa scoffs before taking a fighting stance.
The Goomba hops twice before running at the Koopa, startling the turtle until he pushes the Goomba back with a punch before engaging in a slap fight with his opponent. A Waddle Dee is then seen cheering on as a spectator before a Blue Paratroopa tells it to leave, which it does so with a sad look on its face. Focus returns to the combatants as the Koopa holds the Goomba back with his arm before punching him away and, as the Goomba hits the ground, makes a taunting gesture. Insulted, the Goomba charges again as the Koopa is distracted before jumping on his head three times, forcing him into his shell. The Goomba takes advantage of this opportunity by kicking the Koopa Shell away, only for it to bounce off of a Thwomp and dispatch the rest of Bowser's minions on board before colliding with a Bob-omb that stops the shell dead in its tracks, confusing it and the Goomba before the Bob-omb detonates, forcing the Goomba to run for his life before both he and the Koopa get blasted out of the airship by the ensuing explosion.

Once the combatants hit the ground, the Koopa comes out of his shell and looks around for a moment before seeing the Goomba charges at him once more. Startled, the Koopa retreats back into his shell and moves out of range of the Goomba's tackle before crashing into him as a counterattack. Capitalizing on this, the Koopa then hits the Goomba with a barrage of shell strikes before the Goomba sprouts wings and takes flight, becoming a Paragoomba. The Koopa exits his shell before looking up towards his opponent and being hit with a barrage of Mini Goombas and getting pelted to the ground. As he gets up, the Koopa catches one of the Mini Goombas and bites their head off. With a battle cry, He then sprouts wings of his own and takes flight towards the Goomba, who decides to meet him head-on, the pair clashing before a exchanged strike causes lightning to strike.
The combatants ready themselves before meeting with a barrage of attacks faster than the eye can see until they break off. The Koopa proceeds to charge at the Goomba and clothesline him before grabbing and tossing him through the airship the pair were in, causing it to explode into two pieces. The Goomba recovers before launching one of the airship pieces towards the Koopa, who retaliates by charging through it and colliding with the Goomba before sending him into the ground, knocking the pair unconscious.
The camera then cuts to the Koopa's point of view as he wakes up to see the flaming wreckage of the airship.
Catching his breath, the now-unshelled Koopa turns his head to see his shell on the ground nearby. He begins walking towards it before he notices a growing shadow above him, causing him to look up and subsequently leap out of the way in shock as the Goomba lands on the ground, now wearing a Goomba Shoe. In a fearful panic, the Koopa sprints towards his shell, but the Goomba to beats him to the punch and crushes it into the ground. Turning the other way, the Koopa notices an unmanned kart in front of him before hopping in and starting the engine after some minor difficulty, blasting past the Goomba. The Koopa looks ahead to see an Item Box that he hits, giving him a Green Shell as he turns the kart around and speeds towards the Goomba. With his new shell in hand, the Koopa leaps off the kart and chucks the shell at the mushroom, causing the Goomba to leap over the kart's path and into the shell's own, getting hit by it square on and being knocked out of the Shoe. The pair then ready themselves as the Koopa slowly walks forward and puts on the shell while the Goomba gets back into his Shoe.
The Koopa makes the first move as he enters his shell and charges at the Goomba, who uses the Shoe to block it, slowing it down and kicking it away. The Koopa charges at his opponent once more, but the mushroom stomps on the ground right as he approaches, sending him into the air. The Goomba then kicks the shell around a bit before kicking it across the horizon with great force right after. He looks over to see where the shell went before prematurely breathing in relief until the Koopa whacks him from behind, knocking the Goomba out of the Shoe again before the camera zooms out to reveal that the kick caused the shell to rapidly encircle the planet multiple times.
Cutting back to the Goomba as he gets back up, consecutive hits from Koopa strike the uninhabited Shoe before he hops back in, blocking some hits before countering by kicking the shell into the air, the force of the attack sending up sending the Koopa into the Moon's surface before the shell bounces back to Earth, leaving a giant impact crack behind. Seeing the incoming projectile disperse some of the rainclouds above, The Goomba readies himself, digging his Shoe into the ground before punting the Koopa back toward the Moon, leading to a rapid-fire back-and-forth exchange...
...that ends up breaking reality. As the Koopa heads back to Earth once more, the Goomba readies another kick, but the shell has built up enough speed that it ends up opening a rift in the space-time continuum that the turtle enters upon hitting the ground, taking the Goomba's Shoe with him after he's knocked out by the force of the impact. In the rift, the Koopa and the Shoe then pass by a few combatants from Death Battle during their fights: Wally West and Archie Sonic (the latter of whom gets caught off guard by the items speeding past them), Green Lantern (who pauses to look at the Goomba's Shoe that stops by him), and a spinning Booster Gold. Suddenly, he gains even more speed as his shell starts flashing different colors before the screen turns white and returns to the beginning of the fight, the past Koopa scoffing and readying himself for the brawl.
Ringmaster: Huh. Uh...
The past Goomba hops twice and charges at the Koopa like before...
...only for the present Koopa to exit the rift and stomp on his past opponent, splattering the sentient fungus before the fight even began and sending Bowser's other minions flying. As the Koopa catches his breath, he looks around and sees his past self staring at him in shock, much to his surprise, before saying one line to him...
Koopa Troopa: Don't ask.
...and collapsing onto his back right after, falling unconscious as the past Koopa continues to stare in shock.
...when the Koopa ends up barreling towards the Goomba in an attempt to divebomb him, only for the Goomba to simply hop out of the way. Upon crashing into the ground instead of his opponent, the sheer momentum and spinning built up from the previous rapid-fire exchanges sends the Koopa around the world once more, surprising the Goomba as he gets knocked back by the force of the impact. During his high-speed revolution around the planet, the Koopa pokes his head out of his shell, but the sheer speed he's moving at forces his head downwards, grinding his face against the ground.
The camera then cuts to the Goomba looking around for his foe as the Koopa finally stops behind him, leading to the Goomba hopping out of his Shoe and walking towards him. The Koopa looks up, somehow still alive before the Goomba bites down on the Koopa's head, tears it off, and swallows it whole. The Goomba then kicks the shell away triumphantly before standing tall in victory.True Ending

- The core connections between the Goomba and the Koopa are that they are both the most common soldiers of Bowser's army and are considered the weakest and most pathetic enemies in the Super Mario series.
- Although this episode was originally titled Goomba VS Koopa II, the YouTube upload was later changed to Goomba VS Koopa 2 for unknown reasons.
- Some of the footage used during the rundowns were taken from other YouTube videos.

Easter Eggs
- The first half of the description for this episode says "The primordial minions return for a 1-1 rematch 10 years in the making!", a pun that references World 1-1, the famous first level from the original Super Mario Bros., where Goomba and Koopa first appeared.
- After she says Mario's shoe is unable to penetrate a Koopa shell in the Koopa's analysis, Jocelyn comments how Mario can "kick entire castles like they were soccer balls", referencing how Boomstick described Mario lifting up and kicking away Larry's Castle in Super Mario World after Wiz calculated its weight in Mario VS Sonic (2018).
- There are several references to various Mario games throughout the fight.
- The Mario & Luigi series is referenced when Goomba selects the jump option through a Command Block. The "Good", "Great", and "Excellent" effects that appear when a player successfully performs an Action Command are also present.
- The Paper Mario series is also referenced, as it's where Goomba's headbonk that he performs on Koopa originated from.
- The sound effect from Super Mario Bros. 3 when the P-Meter is full plays as Goomba runs away from the detonating Bob-omb's explosion.
- The Earth in this fight is identical to the one seen in Super Mario Odyssey.
- Koopa's shell flashing rainbow lights as he accelerates through time is reminiscent of the flashing shells from Super Mario World.
- Goomba kicking Koopa's shell away after knocking him into it only for it to bounce off a Thwomp and kill several of Bowser's minions, as well as him victoriously kicking away the shell after killing Koopa in the Alternate Ending, are likely a reference to the ending of the original episode, where Goomba tried to kill Koopa by kicking his shell into a small pool of lava, only for it to slide over it and bounce off a block, sending it back towards him and a group of red Goombas, killing them before the Koopa inadvertently falls into a bigger pool of lava and burns to death.
- Four Death Battle combatants make cameos when Koopa travels through time: Wally West, Archie Sonic, Green Lantern, and Booster Gold.
- Goomba's Shoe stops moving in front of Green Lantern while he is time traveling, which he then pauses to look at. This is a reference to the infamous kill of Ben 10 VS Green Lantern, where Hal crushed Ben Tennyson with a construct boot after he traveled back in time to the beginning of the fight.
- Additionally, Koopa's line at the end of the fight after seeing his past self ("Don't ask...") is the same one Hal says when he sees his own past self at the end of his fight against Ben.
Other
- This is the second episode to be shared with Death Battle, after Sasuke VS Hiei, and with the next five being Batman VS Iron Man, Alucard VS Dio Brando, Vegeta VS Thor, Apocalypse VS Black Adam, and Vegito VS Gogeta.
- This is the first fight to become an exhibition after being a Death Battle episode, as it is a rematch of the Death Battle episode done in 2011.
- This is the first episode to have Jocelyn as a co-host.
