- —Simon the Digger to the Anti-Spiral
Gurren Lagann is a mech from the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann series. It will appear in the upcoming episode of Death Battle, Simon the Digger VS White Lantern, where it and Simon the Digger will fight against Kyle Rayner from DC Comics.
History
Mankind once ruled the stars, thanks to the innate Spiral Power they all possessed. This mysterious, exponentially growing force was limited only by how much its wielders believed in themselves, meaning it truly had no bounds. However, a certain group realized that this power would eventually lead to the destruction of all reality in an event called the Spiral Nemesis. These "Anti-Spirals" then did everything in their power to eliminate all Spiral civilizations across the multiverse in hopes of preventing it, thus beginning the Spiral War. For eons, Spiral Warriors fought back using the mechas known as Laganns, but again and again, they were unsuccessful, unable to even find their foe. Lordgenome of Earth eventually rediscovered the Lagann, piloting it and using it as the basis for the Gunmen, which his people piloted as he led them against the Anti-Spiral.
They were unsuccessful yet again and Lordgenome was even corrupted into the Anti-Spiral's ideology. He forced all of humanity back onto Earth, where they had to stay underground or be killed. He buried his Lagann deep in the Earth in hopes it would never be found. Centuries later, it was rediscovered once more by the young Simon, who combined it with Kamina's Gurren to form Gurren Lagann. Ever since then, Gurren Lagann has achieved many new looks and upgrades, and just as a spiral does, each subsequent form has only gotten bigger, and bigger, and bigger, yet still always with Simon at its helm; ever since the humble Lagann that burst him out of the ground, to the cosmos-towering Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann that would finally reach the Anti-Spiral and pierce the heavens.
