- —Jean Grey
Jean Elaine Grey-Summers, also known as the Phoenix and Marvel Girl,[Note 1] is a superheroine from Marvel Comics. She appeared in the 177th episode of Death Battle, Phoenix VS Raven, where she fought against Raven from DC Comics.
History
Jean Elaine Grey was once just your average redhead that grew up with a fairly stable and happy childhood. A turning point in her life happened, however, when her best friend Annie was hit by a car and killed, causing her latent mutant powers of telekinesis and telepathy to awaken. The event deeply scarred Jean and left her comatose, causing her parents to call in a powerful mutant telepath: Professor Charles Xavier. Xavier blocked Jean's telepathic abilities until she was strong enough to control them before inviting her to join his team of mutant students known as the X-Men.
Joining the team under the codename "Marvel Girl", she and the rest of her teammates went on numerous adventures and fought for Xavier's dream of human-mutant coexistence. But then, her life would change again during a mission into space, where she and her team encountered the Phoenix Force, a primordial being that desired untold destruction across all of creation. The entity merged itself with Jean, greatly enhancing her powers and gave her the new persona of the "Phoenix". But power comes at a cost, and Jean became in a constant state of fighting for control and keeping the Phoenix Force in check, and while she has cast it out on more than one occasion, it always seems find its way back to Jean, as she is its one and only truly reliable host.
