Detective Light Yagami, also known as Kira, is the main protagonist of the Death Note series. He will appear in an upcoming Bonus episode of Death Battle, Light VS Columbo, where he will fight against Columbo from the Columbo series.
History
Light Yagami was not just your regular Japanese high schooler, but one who was more than exceptional. He was a genius ranked #1 in the country, making all the girls fawn over him. But neither things like grades nor petty relationships were of any matter to Light — he was bored. Lucky for him, a Shinigami named Ryuk who just as bored as he was dropped a mysterious note book out of the sky in front of him, titled the "Death Note". The rules inside it claimed it could be used to kill anyone by writing down their name, but of course, a smart, rational person like Light could never believe that. Yet curiosity got the best of him, and so he tested it out on a local criminal... and it worked. At that moment, Light realized the power bestowed upon him. He was no longer just a man; he had become a god. And as a god does, he would reshape the world in his perfect image by killing every single criminal there was.
It would not be long before everyone noticed the mysterious influx of criminals dropping dead from heart attacks, dubbing the culprit "Kira". Completely stumped, the Japanese police sought the help of the only detective in the world whose wits could compete with Light's: L. And if there was anything greater than Light's genius, it was his ego, which was what led him to make a fatal flaw that put L directly on his tail. But Light wouldn't let himself be caught so easily. As a god, he now had a mission to fulfill; a new world to create. A world without crime. A world where Kira is law. A world where Kira is justice. And there is no line he won't cross — no name he will not write — in order to make that reality come true. But even still, Light should be cautious so as to not let his ego grow so large it blinds him from the truth; we shall all be taken by death someday, and that is a law not even a god can escape.
