Link VS Meta Knight is the 19th episode of DBX, featuring Link from the The Legend of Zelda series and Meta Knight from the Kirby series in a battle between Nintendo's heroic swordsmen.
Fight
On the Halberd, Meta Knight is seen staring into the distance when three of his knights appear before him. They present him something they picked up: The Triforce of Courage. Meta Knight turns around, proud of his newfound power.
Meta Knight: Now, my power is without rival.
However, a clawshot grabs the Triforce right out of the knight's hands. Meta Knight scoffs as he notices this. It is none other than the Hero of Hyrule himself: Link, who reclaims his Triforce. The masked knight throws his cape to the wind and draws his sword, Galaxia, preparing for battle.
Meta Knight: Come!
Meta Knight teleports behind Link as their blades clash several times. Meta Knight then does an overhead slash on the hero, which also gets blocked. Link activates his Triforce and charges at Meta Knight, with the knight doing countering with his own charging slash. Knocked away, but not down, Meta Knight uses this opportunity to stab his sword in the ground to shoot three electric attacks, but Link runs at the knight of Dream Land, blocking the attacks with his shield. Meta Knight then sends a gust of wind at Link, who uses his clawshot to latch onto something above him and avoid it. But Meta Knight isn't done yet. He then angles himself in Link's direction and electrically charges himself to send his sword right at the hero, which he is shocked to notice. In quick retaliation, Link stabs the Master Sword downward to counter, creating a massive surge of electricity that can be seen from above the Halberd.
Link falls to the ground and gets up, with his opponent seemingly not in sight. Seeing his sword that he dropped, Link uses his clawshot again to grab it, but it is stopped mid-shot by Meta Knight, who teleported and grabbed the chain to drag the horrified Link into an uppercut. While his opponent is in the air without his sword, Meta Knight performs the Mach Tornado on the airborne Link. When the green-cladded warrior almost reaches the ground head-first, Meta Knight turns as the world darkens and the knight uses one of his ultimate finishers: Galaxia Darkness.
Meta Knight: Know my power!
Meta Knight then proceeds to decapitate the Hero of Hyrule in a single clean slice. Meta Knight then reclaims the Triforce of Courage he stole from his now deceased opponent.
Meta Knight: Victory... is my destiny.
The new wielder of the Triforce of Courage turns back at the sunset as Link's head falls behind him.
Trivia
Production
- The core connections between Link and Meta Knight are that they are both quiet heroic video game swordsmen created by Nintendo. In addition:
- Both made their debuts on the NES.
- Both primarily wield their own personal legendary swords (the Master Sword and Galaxia, respectively).
- Interestingly, in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, when Kirby used Meta Knight's sword, he gained the "Master" ability, which led to fans calling Meta Knight's sword "The Master Sword" before it was officially named "Galaxia."
- Both are loyal protectors who fight for their world and the people they care about, specifically a pink themed character (Zelda and Kirby, respectively) to defeat the dark entities who threaten their world.
- Both have an evil, dark counterpart (Dark Link and Dark Meta Knight, respectively) who came from reflections (Dark Link comes from Link's reflection while Dark Meta Knight comes from the Mirror World).
- Both wear masks (Link has various masks while Meta Knight always wears a mask) and capes that can make them invisible (the Magic Cape and the Dimensional Cape, respectively).
- This is also a battle of opposites, as while Link fights with light, Meta Knight is more akin to darkness.
- Both are playable characters in the Super Smash Bros. series, with their dark counterparts being their 8th alternate costumes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Both combatants use voice clips from the Smash Bros. series (Brawl and Wii U/3DS for Link specifically).
- Meta Knight's line "Now, my power is without rival" comes from an unused sound clip from Brawl.
- The original thumbnail for this episode used uncredited fan art of Meta Knight by Nibroc.Rock on DeviantArt. The thumbnail was later updated to replace the fan art with official artwork.
- This makes it the second DBX episode where at least one of its thumbnails uses fan art with, after Terry Bogard VS Jon Talbain, and with the next one being Mega Man VS Bomberman.
Errors
- In the current thumbnail, the bottom of Meta Knight's image is cut off.
Other
- Meta Knight seemingly does not take a single hit during this battle, making this the first DBX episode to feature such a phenomenon, with the next one being Ness VS Sans.
