  • Development

When Ben Singer animated Death Battle, he recycled locations used in various video games. Jordan Lange and other animators like Mali De'lisser and the modern Death Battle team build their backgrounds from the ground up using various elements of backgrounds from other games and programs (Such as Lange using some assets from Mortal Kombat 3 for Shao Kahn VS M. Bison). Torrian used the same city model for Terminator VS RoboCop, Godzilla VS Gamera, and Deadpool VS Deathstroke.

In a ScrewAttack podcast, Ben Singer explained that, after choosing the combatants and matchup, the first step of creating a Death Battle episode is the decision of what the environment of the fight would be like, which would be the main basis of the fight animations.
