- —McGruff the Crime Dog
McGruff the Crime Dog is a PSA mascot from the Ad Council. He appeared in the 83rd episode of Death Battle, Smokey Bear VS McGruff the Crime Dog, where he fought against fellow PSA mascot Smokey Bear.
History
In the late 70's, America was faced with a dangerous increase in criminal activity, and the public was concerned. A campaign needed to be created to make the public reduce crime on their own. A new mysterious face then burst onto the scene: McGruff the Crime Dog, a bipedal bloodhound in a trenchcoat who works as a "pre-tective" in the ongoing battle against crime. For decades, McGruff has snuck around giving simple advice; keep your eyes open, and use the brain in your head. All this was to prevent a crime from happening in the first place, be it from bullies, drugs, or suspicious activity. Should McGruff ever sniff out something fishy, he will always be there to let the public know to take a bite out of crime.
