Sasuke VS Hiei is the eighth episode of DBX, featuring Sasuke Uchiha from the Naruto series and Hiei from the YuYu Hakusho series in a battle between special-eyed anime anti-heroes.

- The core connections between Sasuke and Hiei are that they are both shonen anime anti-heroes with brooding personalities who possess unique and powerful abilities centered around their eyes (both the Sharingan and the Rinnegan and the Jagan, respectively) and serve as the main rivals to their series' main protagonists (Naruto Uzumaki and Yusuke Urameshi, respectively). In addition:
- Both are skilled swordsmen and have dark and fire-based powers, including creating black flames capable of burning through anything (Amaterasu and the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, respectively) and dragon attacks (Kirin and the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, respectively).
- Both had vengeful grudges against their family members and have fought against godly and demonic entities.
- Both have appeared in multiple Shonen Jump crossover video games together, including Jump Super Stars, Jump Ultimate Stars, J-Stars Victory VS, and Jump Force.
- Naruto author Masashi Kishimoto admittedly took Hiei as an inspiration for Sasuke.
- The fight's far more comedic tone that contrasts with both characters' actual personalities (with both dark anti-heroes fighting over a Hello Kitty doll and mutually dying for it) was mentioned to have been done because the team was interested in doing the episode as a real Death Battle (which it would eventually become three years later), and thus didn't want the DBX to overlap with what they had in mind for an actual script, so they made it a joke instead.
