Wiz & Boomstick

We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.
Wiz: There's a thin line between the natural and the supernatural.
Boomstick: And for some reason, the weirdest of powers keep showin' up in teens. When's it gonna be our turn?
We cut to the combatants' name cards.
Wiz: Danny Phantom, Amity Park's half-human half-ghost superhero.
Boomstick: And Jake Long, the hip American Dragon of New York City.
We cut back to Wiz and Boomstick.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Danny Phantom
Boomstick: (rapping) Young Danny Fenton, he was just 14, when his parents built a very strange machine, it was designed to view a world unseen...
Wiz: Uh, Boomstick?
Boomstick: ...He's gonna catch em' all, 'cause he's Danny Phantom!~
Boomstick: (rapping) Young Danny Fenton, he was just 14, when his parents built a very strange machine, it was designed to view a world unseen. He's gonna catch em' all, 'cause he's Danny Phantom!~

(Version-exclusive transcripts end here.)
Wiz: Nice, but let's focus on his backstory.
Boomstick: What do you mean? I just did. In song!
Wiz: Fair enough. Danny wasn't much different from your usual high school teenager; a bit awkward, a bit geeky, but not unusual, except for the fact that his parents had taken up a very unusual profession.
Boomstick: Yeah! Hunting ghooooosts~!
Wiz: Among their spectral-seeking equipment was the Fenton Portal. Meant to open a rift to the realm of spirits.
Boomstick: The Ghooost Zooone~...! (rapping) But then, Danny took a look inside of it, there was a great big flash, everything just changed, his molecules got all rearranged! Uh, okay, I'll stop.
Wiz: Unbeknownst to his parents, the portal permanently changed Danny's body, transforming him into a halfa, or a human infused with ecto-energy.
Boomstick: AKA, ghost powers! And when ghosts started invading the living world, Danny took it upon himself to catch em' all. And despite this show starting in the early 2000s, that's not talkin' about Pokémon. Weird coincidence.
Wiz: He soon became known as the supernatural superhero, Danny Phantom.
Boomstick: And for some reason, nobody figured out that Danny Fenton was Danny Phantom, 'cause people are dumb.
Wiz: Maybe they were just playing along? He is a kid, after all.
Boomstick: Nah, they're stupid.
Wiz: To catch ghosts, Danny used a lot of his parents' signature gadgets, including the Fenton Thermos.
Boomstick: Once a clever way to sneak your beer into concerts, now a device that sucks up and traps the undead! Wait a minute, is this kid a Ghostbuster? Or, I guess, a ghost Ghostbuster?
Wiz: In a way, but Danny's ghastly form meant he could do many things that Bill Murray could not.
Boomstick: He can do anything a ghost can, like floating around and spookin' the shit outta people.
Wiz: He can fly, sense other spirits, freeze foes with ice, create equally spectral clones of himself, possess others, turn invisible, and expel ectoplasmic energy in the form of barriers and attacks.
We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.
Boomstick: Oh yeah, he's a laser-shootin' ghost!
Wiz: Ectoplasma.
Boomstick: Whatever. He can fire beams from his eyes, his finger, and even his spectral sphincter!
Boomstick then proceeds to turn around and shake his butt from side to side.
Wiz: I guess that's why they call him "gas-tly," huh?
Boomstick crosses his arms, shakes his head, and glares at Wiz for the pun.
Wiz: Maybe he should see a doctor. But his deadliest, most exhausting ability is his Ghostly Wail.
Boomstick: This one comes from the other end, where he's literally yelling at people; he really is a teenager.
Wiz: This "wail" is an omnidirectional burst of ectoplasmic energy, which, at its strongest, can eradicate weaker ghosts in a single shot.
Boomstick takes a deep breath and unleashes the Ghostly Wail, sending Wiz to the ground.
Boomstick: See? Just like that.
Wiz: (groans) Why?
We cut back to the analysis.
Boomstick: Danny's proven himself as a powerful ghost fighter again and again, like the time he went Kamehameha on this poor skeleton at a mini-golf course.
Wiz: Comparing Danny's size to the crater formed, the energy needed to vaporize this much terrain would be in the ball, er, golf park of around 550 tons of TNT. Plus, his ectoplasmic beams tend to be considered actual lasers.
Boomstick: Aha! I knew it!
Wiz: They move in straight lines, burn on contact, bounce off reflective surfaces, and can be channeled through a magnifying glass, so they are likely comparable to light in both makeup and speed.
Boomstick: And he's shootin' and dodgin' these things on a daily basis! You'd think with speed like that, he'd never be late for class, or get smacked by some of these heavy hitters, like his nemesis, Vlad, or this dragon lady, Dorathea.
Wiz: Dorathea's fire breath was powerful enough to disperse a large cloud formation. Measuring the distance between this castle and the outskirts, we determined the cloud would, at minimum, need a radius of over 300 meters to encompass the landmass the castle is situated on. Dispersing a cloud cover of that size would need over seven kilotons of TNT.
Boomstick: He even beat up his future self, Dan Phantom. 'Cause, I guess, you know, that shows that he's matured, 'cause, he's Dan now.
Wiz: As powerful as Danny is, he's still a teenager, and has all the arrogance and moodiness that comes with the territory.
Boomstick: And he's got a really bad habit of losing his powers in the most random ways possible. Meet a genie? Powers gone. Shrink ray? Sure, why the hell not? I'm just surprised he didn't trip into his own thermos at some point. Oh wait, he did.
Wiz: Still, Danny has saved his hometown and the entire world time and time again. (singing) He had to stop all the ghosts that were coming through, he's here to fight for me and you.... aw damn it, now you have me doing it!
Boomstick chuckles.
Danny: I'm Goin' Ghost!
Danny: Guess the future isn't as set in stone as you think it is.
Danny proceeds to use the Ghostly Wail on Dark Danny.

Jake Long
Wiz: Thousands of years ago, a group of mystic warriors were formed. This was the Huntsclan. And their mission was to eliminate all magical creatures from the world.
Boomstick: But these Foot Clan wannabes were in over their heads, thanks to the most powerful creatures of them all, the dragons.
Wiz: In short, every corner of the world has a dragon tasked as a guardian of the magical community. This mantle is passed down generation by generation.
Boomstick: So, after the Chinese Dragon's daughter moved to America, her son became the first American Dragon, Jake Long. ♫He's cool, he's hot, like a frozen sun, he's young, and fast, he's the chosen one, he's the American Dragon~!♫
Wiz: You're gonna do this the whole episode, aren't you?
Boomstick: Probably.
Wiz: Jake was only 13 years old when he became the newest protector of magic. His responsibilities became tough to handle, alongside school and friends.
Boomstick: Lucky for Jake, he didn't have to go it alone. His grandfather was his mentor in martial arts and all things dragon, and had a magical dog, Fu Dog! Who I'm pretty sure has a higher body count than any of this show's villains.
We see a clip from the episode "Fu and Tell" of him and Yan Yan causing the wreck of the Titanic.
Boomstick: Oh, rest in peace, DiCaprio, you handsome devil. I learned how to fight bears from watchin' you. I'll never let go.
Wiz: Ahem, to be clear, Jake possessed the ability to transform into a draconic persona, complete with brand new physique and abilities.
Boomstick: Well, duh! He's a frickin' dragon! He's got the claws, the teeth, the tail, the wings, and of course, the raging, burning fire breath!
We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.
Boomstick: He was throwin' fire from his mouth, his hands, and even his burnin' b-hole!
Wiz: All of these kids should really go see a doctor.
Boomstick: Nah, his dragon form's in super top condition. He's even got ultra sight and vision thanks to his Eye and Ear of the Dragon powers. Perfect for when some pesky ninja punks are tryin' to get the jump on ya. God, I hate it when that happens.
Boomstick: That's why it's always important to have anti-ninja protection.
He takes out a card that reads "Anti-Ninja Membership".
Wiz: What? Where did you sign up for that?
Boomstick: Why do you think I bought 10,000 screaming rubber chickens? Try and step foot in my shack, you stealth assholes.
We cut back to the analysis.
Wiz: He doesn't even need to transform fully to use these powers; technically, Jake can morph individual parts of his body at will.
Boomstick: Man, I wish I could transform into a dragon; nothin' would be sweeter than kickin' ass as a magical, fire-breathin' super lizard!
Wiz: The keyword being "magic".
Boomstick: Yep, he can fight magical creatures ordinary people can't, including ghooosts! He can even use his chi to create doppelgangers of himself for a helping hand.
Wiz: As a dragon, Jake is tough enough to smash through steel, hold up a pillar, and annihilate a house with a simple sneeze. He can produce enough flame to obliterate several sheets of stone. Measuring the size of the hole here next to the girl in the shot, we can tell his fire breath destroyed over six million cubic centimeters of stone, which would need over 30 tons of TNT.
Boomstick: That's like gettin' hit by three Mother of all Bombs, which was a massive 10,000-kilogram nuke. You wonder if Jake ever uses breath mints?
Wiz: He can also fly over a hundred miles per hour, moving from ground to cloud level in mere seconds.
Boomstick: And he can dodge lasers, too! And they're totally light lasers, reflecting off mirrors, straight consistent speed, all that stuff.
Wiz: Jake has accomplished a lot as the "Am Drag" of New York City, but it wasn't always easy.
Boomstick: Yeah, bein' a teenager's hard. Not to mention keepin' his powers a secret from his monster-hating dad. Really landed a winner there, mom whose own father is a dragon monster!
Wiz: He's defeated the Huntsclan over and over, fought off his own evil clone, and even outdid the Dark Dragon himself.
Boomstick: The ultimate dragon! Top-tier dragos around the world are scared shitless of this guy, but Jake whooped his butt and sealed him away for good. Or, at least for the next thousand years. Eh, it'll be someone else's problem.
Wiz: Unfortunately, Jake has one distinct, unavoidable weakness: Sphinx hair.
Boomstick: Like, the Egyptian lion riddle lady?
Wiz: Exactly.
Boomstick: Well, that's not random at all.
Wiz: Young and brash though he may be, the world can rest assured that Jake Long will carry on the dragon's legacy.
Boomstick: He really is the hippest fire-breathing super lizard out there.
Jake: Dragon up!
Prelude
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities.
Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLEEE!!!
Death Battle
American Phantom
by Brandon Yates |
A museum in the middle of the city at night has a banner reading "Egypt Exhibit Opening Soon." Inside, Danny Fenton stands in front of a sarcophagus holding a golden skull. He turns it and his hands intangible and places the skull inside it.
Danny: There. Back where it belongs.
Jake: Yo, back to steal something else?
Danny turns in surprise to see Jake Long standing there, glaring at him.
Jake: Dragon up!
In a burst of fire, he turns into the American Dragon.
Jake: You got three seconds before the Am Drag's gonna show you out.
Danny: Am-what?
Jake flies at him, he grabs Danny, lifts him up, throws him, and flies after him.
Danny: Going ghost!
Rings of white energy pass over him, turning him into Danny Phantom. He phases through the wall, causing Jake to smash into it. Jake steadies himself as Danny floats up behind him.
Danny: I didn't count three!
He flies at Jake and the two trade blows, Jake breathes fire, Danny dodges and counters. They begin flying around as Jake continues to breathe fire. Danny dodges the flames, grabs Jake by the tail and throws him to the ground. He quickly flies down and stomps on Jake's tail, causing him to scream out in pain before Danny lands an ecto-charged punch that sends Jake careening backwards.
Jake crashes into one of the exhibits and picks up an ancient tablet. He tries throwing the heavy stone at Danny, but he simply phases through it and begins taunting his opponent as he levitates.
Danny: Hahaha! Wanna try something else? I don't want this to drag on.
Jake tosses another tablet at Danny, but this time he uses it as a cover before dashing through the stone before it phases through Danny.
Jake: How's this?
Thanks to his magical powers, Jake manages to claw Danny out of his intangibility and slashes him to the ground. He then begins rapping as he delivers a devastating combo on his foe, spilling ectoplasm.
Jake: Ah yeah! I'm the Am Dragon of the NYC, and you, ghost kid, ain't got nothin' on me!
Jake ends his combo with a large fire blast, knocking Danny forward. Just as he is about to follow up, Danny quickly turns invisible before Jake can cut him.
Jake: Eye of the Dragon!
Jake enhances his vision and begins observing his surroundings.
Jake: Where'd he go?
One of the mummies placed in the exhibit right behind Jake starts glowing and begins slowly approaching him. Jake notices just in time and claws Danny right out of the mummy before flying both Danny and himself through the ceiling and into the city.
Danny escapes Jake's grasp by landing an ice punch on him. Jake quickly notices that his left arm is frozen before dodging an ice beam and charging forward to punch Danny, breaking off the ice in his arm in the process. Jake breathes fire once more, which clashes with one of Danny's ice beams, causing a blinding fog to appear.
As Jake's vision recovers, Danny flies up to him and unleashes his Ghostly Wail, sending Jake hurtling towards a billboard that he crashes through. While he begins flapping his wings once more, Danny arrives at the billboard with three duplicates of himself.
Danny: Ready for more?
Jake: Not a bad trick, G. But anything you can do...
Jake places his palms together and by focusing his own chi, creates three doppelgängers.
Jake: I can do better!
Danny, Jake and their three clones begin flying through the city, trading blows, ecto beams, and flame bursts. Jake's doppelgängers eventually gain the upper hand and gather all four Dannies before throwing them on a rooftop.
One of the Jake's roars, signaling the others to follow him as they create a large vortex surrounding the Dannies with their speed. All four dragons unleash their most devastating flame bursts on the Dannies. Three Dannies brace for impact while one tries to get away before a massive explosion takes out most of the roof.
As the dust settles, Jake notices that there are several large ash stains on the roof where the Dannies were previously standing. He proudly boasts as his doppelgängers disappear thinking the job was done.
Jake: Guess I was too hot for him.
Danny suddenly appears behind Jake.
Danny: But I'm way cooler!
Before Jake can react, Danny quickly phases into Jake's body. Jake's eyes change from yellow to green as the Danny begins taking over his body.
Jake: Get... out!
Danny forces Jake to ram his head several times between two buildings.
Danny: D to the A to the N-N-Y, this dragon's got claws and wings to fly!
Danny makes Jake crash through one final building that disorients Jake enough to start falling towards the ground. He exits his body before charging up one of his ecto beams.
Danny: But I'm still better than this other guy!
He unleashes the full power of his ghost ray on Jake, completely vaporizing the his body. Jake suddenly appears in his human form, but now as a flying ghost.
Jake: Hey! What?!
Before he can process his death, Danny sucks up Jake's spirit with the Fenton Thermos.
Jake: WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! WHOOAAA!!!
Danny Phantom smiles as he places the cap on the thermos, trapping Jake Long's ghost inside.
Danny: Time's up, pal.

We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.
Boomstick: Well, looks like this dragon got... burned.
Wiz: This was a very unique matchup. With both fighters having such different power sets, it was fascinating to watch them clash together. Jake was technically more skilled, thanks to his grandfather's martial arts training, and has proven capable of harming ghosts. But Danny's power and plethora of abilities was difficult for him to counter.
We cut to the post-analysis.
Boomstick: Yeah, Danny's no slouch, and has fought a few more battles than Jake. Plus, Jake's never dealt with a ghost as powerful as Danny. Those cranky Civil War spirits didn't exactly have ice beams and ghost lasers.
Wiz: While they may have been similar in lightspeed reactions, Danny's flight speed was definitely higher. Also, Jake's fire was comparable to three GBU-43 warheads, commonly referred to as the Mother Of All Bombs. However, Dorathea's fire was equal to 700 of them.
Boomstick: And Danny took those flames on like a champ, which means Jake didn't have the "firepower" he needed to knock the teenage ghost down for good.
Wiz: Danny could overpower Jake's fire with his ecto projectiles, match Jake's duplicates with his own, and even slip past Jake's enhanced senses with his invisibility.
Boomstick: And while Danny had all those counters, Jake didn't have any against Danny's wail or possession.
We cut to Wiz and Boomstick.
Wiz: Jake may be the American Dragon for good reason, but he couldn't match up to Danny's impressive power, durability, and ghostly abilities.
Boomstick: It didn't take Long for Jake to fall short in this "Fent-astic" battle.
We cut to the "Winner" card.
Wiz: The winner is Danny Phantom.
Original Track
American Phantom
by Brandon Yates |
Composition
The track for this fight is "American Phantom" by Brandon Yates. It is a techno song with a heavy emphasis on the bassline and has an eerie atmosphere similar to the Danny Phantom theme song. There are also eastern elements present reflecting the American Dragon: Jake Long series. Parts of both shows' theme songs are also referenced throughout the track.
Title
The title simply combines Jake and Danny's superhero aliases (American Dragon and Danny Phantom).
Cover Art
The cover art depicts a golden gong (a reference to the American Dragon: Jake Long logo) with a red dragon (representing Jake) and a green ghost (representing Danny) on opposite sides of it. Flames and ectoplasm are also spread across the gong while orange, white, and turquoise rays of light are being emitted by it.
Trivia
Production
- The connections between Danny Phantom and Jake Long are that they are both heroic half-human teenagers from popular mid-2000s cartoons created by rivaling animation companies (Nickelodeon and Disney, respectively) who can transform themselves into supernatural creatures ( aspiritual ghost and a mythical dragon, respectively) and fight other supernatural beings alongside their two best friends (Sam and Tucker, and Spud and Trixie, respectively), while also being occasionally aided by their intelligent, overachieving sisters (Jazz Fenton and Haley Long, respectively). Both have had to deal with keeping their supernatural identities a secret while also living the life of a typical school student and having a tendency of abusing their powers in everyday life. Both have an obvious allusion to their heroic personas in their real names ("Danny Phantom" is a play on Danny's real name, Danny Fenton, and Jake's last name, Long, translates to "dragon" in Chinese). Additionally, both also have a battle cry when triggering their transformation ("(I'm) Going Ghost!" and "Dragon Up!", respectively).
- The creator of Danny Phantom, Butch Hartman, approved of this episode and helped promote it in several ways.
- After the matchup was revealed, he sent out a tweet expressing his approval of Danny Phantom being in an episode, and later drew fan art to hype up the episode.
- He had Ben Singer and Chad James on his YouTube Channel before the premiere of this episode.
- After the release of the episode, Hartman made a reaction video to the episode itself, giving it a huge endorsement.
- He appeared as one of the four hosts in the 179th episode of DEATH BATTLE Cast. In that episode, when asked by Ben how he would have felt if Danny Phantom were to have lost, he answered that he wouldn't be upset but instead be a bit bummed.
- This makes it the fifth episode to be acknowledged by one of the combatants' creators or series, after Beast VS Goliath, Dante VS Bayonetta, Amy Rose VS Ramona Flowers, and Scrooge McDuck VS Shovel Knight, and with the next two being Saitama VS Popeye and Omni-Man VS Homelander.
- David Kaufman, Danny's official voice actor, sent a tweet to Nicholas Andrew Louie (who voiced Danny in this episode), expressing his approval while appreciating that the Danny Phantom TV series first aired on the same day as his birthday in 2004.
- Danny's end-of-analysis clip is different in the Rooster Teeth version of the episode, coming from an interaction with Dark Danny instead.
- This makes it the second episode where a combatant's end-of-analysis clip is different between the Rooster Teeth and YouTube versions of the episode, after Doctor Strange VS Doctor Fate.
- Due to a copyright claim from Boomstick singing the Danny Phantom theme song at the start of Danny's analysis, the original YouTube upload of this episode was taken down shortly after its release. It has since been reuploaded, but now with Wiz saying "Uh, Boomstick?" being adlibbed into the middle of him singing.
- The original version of the episode can still be viewed on Rooster Teeth.
- The copyright claim also made it so that Nicholas Andrew Louie had to dub over Danny's end-of-analysis clip.
Easter Eggs
- Jake calling himself "the Am Dragon of the NYC" in rap form as he slashes at Danny is similar to a line in his part of American Dragon: Jake Long's Season 1 theme song ("I’m the mack-daddy dragon from the NYC").
- Jake gets blasted through a billboard for Rooster Teeth's then-upcoming production Red vs. Blue: Zero after being hit with Danny's Ghostly Wail.
- Danny's improvised rap at the end of the fight after he possesses Jake references both combatants' theme songs; "D to the A to the N-N-Y" is similar to the start of Jake's part of American Dragon: Jake Long's Season 1 theme song ("From the J, to the A, to the K, to the E,"), while "But I'm still better than this other guy!" is similar to a line near the end of the Danny Phantom theme song ("He was much more unique than the other guys").
Other
- This is the second Paramount VS Disney-themed episode, after Shredder VS Silver Samurai, and with the next one being Korra VS Storm.

Coyote VS Tom Cat.
- This is the fourth episode where the loser was still in the land of the living after losing, as Jake's ghost was still around before Danny caught him, after Starscream VS Rainbow Dash, Shao Kahn VS M. Bison, and Ghost Rider VS Lobo, and with the next two being Venom VS Crona and Yoda VS King Mickey.
- This is the first time in which the loser ends up being trapped instead of having their soul devoured by the winner.
