NOTE: THIS IS MERE PREPERATIONS FOR THE FIRST COUNTDOWN FOR FIRE EMBLEM MONTH. I AM NOT GOING TO CONTINUE WORKING ON THIS TILL DECEMBER[]

And yes, for those who know me my number 1 is obvious. but i'm still saving it for a surprise

Hello, and welcome to the start of fire emblem month. Yes, I know i'm a day early but Ive been eager to do this countdown for a while now and this is one was one ive been looking forward to for a WHILE now. Fire Emblem going as long as it has, means its have a big and robust characters. Hell, Heroes practically shoves it in your face. But for so many, there has to be a few stinkers and hatable characters. So im going to list the characters based on a few reasons

  • How they are as characters
  • Stories
  • Interactions
  • Albeit minor, stats and uses in combat
  • Oh and I'm only sticking to playable characters that you can recruit, command, and use in your army. So characters like Gangrel, Desmond and Izuka wont be on the list.....The last one is incredibly lucky
  • And of course, the characters have to be from Fire Emblem games ive played or have good knowledge of its lore and story to make it on the list

With that out of the way, onto the list

#10[]

Corrin (Child of Dusk)

CORRIN- FATES[]

Yeah yeah, I know what youre thinking. Just hear me ou-

(*And then a demon bursts through the ground*)

CORRIN? CORRIN!? ONLY #10!? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? FATES IS AN ABOMINATTION OF THE FRANCHISE AND CORRIN IS THE REPRESENTATION OF EVERYTHING WRONG WITH IT!? HOW COULD HE/SHE BE #10

Because I dont actually hate them.... Now go back to whatever you crawled from

(*Transition*)

AS it stands, Corrin seems to be one of the more infamous lords of the FIre Emblem series. And with them being the mascot of the series' Black Sheep, it was already a recipe for disaster. While personally I have issues with Corrins character and i'm not the only one who touched this subject so I'll try to keep it brief. Corrin was a descendant of king Sumeragi of the Hoshidan Kingdom before being kidnapped by Gangrel and raised him in Nohrian territories while also being isolated from the world and the war around him. If anything, Corrins shut in life made him not very knowledgable of many things. Making a lot of decisions he makes seem incredibly stupid. But I guess he has an excuse for that. And while my love for the design of both male and female are unmatched, what I cant ignore is how much of an incredible bore they come across. With how dull their characterization comes across and how a lot of his supports basically go nowhere and only add more depth to the person they are talking too, makes them a step down with what Awakening had to offer with it's avatar.

But some points that show sides of Corrin I did not expect them to have. Like how protective they are of Kana, and some supports that really impress me and present sides of Corrin I didn't think would exist (Such as the support with Orochi). I think the reason most notable for why Corrin is only #10 is for 2 reasons. One is that they have the most diverse in builds and character customization and can easily breeze through any of the 3 stories with any build, and the other is how Fire Emblem Warriors was able to bring out a bit more character that was needed in Fates. (Ill be using the female term since Corrin is female in the story but can be switched to male) Due to acting more supportive instead of the main emphasis of the story. Showing Corrin to be more upbeat and cheerful as she's often the voice of hope that helps rally everyone's spirits and help bring light in the dark situation. Which also extends to her supports to everyone and is ever so sweet that doesn't come across as patronizing or normal. I guess Warriors is a good reason that helps me understand how one cardboard box was able to inspire so many.....Kinda wish Corrin was like this in the start.

Would it have hindered Fate's reputation? Probably not, but it probably would have made Corrin seem like a character with more potential than what is presented.

Meg Fire Emblem.png

MEG- RADIANT DAWN[]

Oh look, yet another case of one of the most hated characters in the community being on the low end of the stick.

I wish the Dawn Brigade would have more time. I really do, and there some characters I do like. But with how often the game shifts perspectives, makes it harder for me to like most characters, outside of the ones that do get development and depth like Micaiah and Sothe. Though i will admit a lot of the units do have a good reason to be fighting in this war and have some decent backstory to why they are fighting this war. With the exception of the little doll known as Meg.

While not nearly as offensive or insulting as most characters, nor does she have any traits that can be considered hatable. Rather, Meg is just.....there. Probably one of the most pointless characters in the whole franchise. So pointless, that it makes Yamcha look important,

Her personality (Or what there is) is that of a shy, yet nice little sweet girl. So as i had, she isnt an unlikable character. But she doenst have much of a character to be properly judged. With her dialouge being incredibly limited and when she does, it doesn't feel like what she has has any full meaning to it. Doesnt help that she has this really dumb romantic plot involving Zihark. Though to be fair, have you seen the man?

She at no point showes any ration center of being a part of the plot. But the reason why Meg is so hated is how she is as an armored unit.

Armored units in Fire Emblem have three jobs. Hold the line, make sure they dont get forward so you can protect the back, and deal major damage to foes. Meg sadly doesnt have any of these and doesnt help the chapter she appears in is where you have to hold your ground. Where Meg will deal minimal damage while also taking massive damage without tanking it. essentially being a tank that cant tank. Doesnt help that as a kngiht, she is easily outclassed by both her father, and Gatrie as armored units. Unlike most, she has an unusually higher stats and growths in speed, resistance and luck. Which is usually something that hinder armored units. Were they trying to go the Amelia approach and go for a speedy tank build? Whats the point?

Maybe im being to harsh on Meg. and another meg has been mistreated to much by the world that she deserves better. But what annoys me is how irrevelant she is to the plot and her story with Zihark goes nowhere....... and she isnt even the worst armored unit in the series

Lalum
FE Echoes Faye

Lalum & Faye-Binding Blade & Echoes: Shadows of Valentia[]

]

This entry has 2 characters who share similar problems with each other that made me think of putting them in the same spot.

Let's start with Lalum, being the only dancer in Binding Blade comes from a chapter where you have to choose to save one of the two villages. As a result, you could either get Lalum, a dancer, or Elffin, a bard. Unlike the Dragon Siblings, you dont switch between the two, you have to keep the one while the other becomes a fortune teller. And honestly, I like Elffin more as a character and unit. He has higher HP and defense so he can take more damage and he actually has a very interesting backstory . Where Lalum lacks in bulk, she makes up for it in luck and evasion. And what she lacks in background, she makes up for it in......personality. Yeah, not the worst of the series (Believe me, the top 3 take that) but dear god is she annoying. She has a huge crush on Roy that she wont even stop to shut up about, and has a tendancy to scream at the most inopportunities. Heck most of her support conversations start with her going "EEEEEEEEEEEEK!". I do feel bad, since she really tries her best to help and always fumbles. Her heart is in the right place and her father is General Douglas, and that is awesome. I probably have less issues if it werent the fact choosing between the bard and dancer changes your path. And honestly, I like Lalum's path more. Elffin's path has you pick up Bartre....which speaks for itself. And Lalum's path gets you Echidna. A badass who can get an A rank with axes in a split second. I guess that means she doesnt chuckle

So by this standard, if I wan Echidna I have to give up on Elffin. It's not much that i hate Lalum, i just had a bitter experience

Now to Faye, who kinda shares the same issue. Take Lalum's crush on Roy, crank it too 100x and be the only character trait she has. thats basically Faye for you. And I know she's not a bad person per say and can be sweet, but there is so many times I can here Alm before a hernia pops out. And unlike Faye, I dont feel her crush with Alm was justified and her support with Alm can basically be summed up as 50 shades of Faye. With some of her dialouge towards Alm feels either out place or downright desperate. With Alm clearly not validating the same level of interest and how can she be somewhat hostile towards others for rather moronic reasons, but she never got over this and ended up marrying a different poor sap. Ill give her credit, in some areas she can be nice and adorable but her obsession with Alm rubs me the wrong way. But thankfully as a unti she made up for it for being one of my most used clerics in the game while also being very potent with any of the other classes as well. So there's some good things i can say about these two hopeless damsels of love.

Laurent

Laurent- Awakening[]

When it came to the children units of awakening, I thought they were a nice little detail to add some replayability. As it expands upon the mechanic from genealogy of the holy war. While also interesting to open up the many character possibilities, its also interesting that the kids inherit certain traits from their parents. Owain while a gem of his own, inherits a few traits from Lissa, Cynthia inheriting a lot of traits from her mother such as her clumsy antics but cranked up even further. Laurent.......is just Miriel but worse.

Now dont get the wrong idea, I like Mirial but she was kind of a flat character. Being with the Shepherds since the beginning with little introduction but her vocabulary and convulsiveness was what helped made her a little interesting and sometimes i cant help but get a laugh out of some her support conversations. Laurent,,,,,,just bores me. So boring, it actually makes Corrin look taime in comparison.

Yeah, Fire Emblem is no stranger to incredibly boring characters, I mentioned one before, but they usually have some redeeming trait that allows me to latch onto them in support conversations. Here, its mostly nothing. The only time Laurent got a laugh at me was in his S support with Noire. After being yelled at by Noire's alter ego, it turns out it....turns him on and is a full on masochist. But it didn't made me laugh because of Laurent, it made me laugh cause of how out of place and out of character it was for him. And if the only way to make your character interesting is making them out of character, than we have a problem.

And also.,...I never found him as fun to use in battle. Mostly because in terms of performance and growths, He is outclassed by every single mage in the game. Henry and Tharja are obvious, Ricken even surpass him in most growths, even his own mother is a better unit than he is. There isnt really much else to say about Laurent.....and that maybe the worst part of it.

Jakob fullbody

Jacob- Fates[]

I know what youre thinking, and yes this maybe an odd choice to choose someone like Jacob to be the worst fates characters when there are some to choose by,. Hell, Azama and his daughter came very close to taking this spot instead.

Inconsistency is an aspect of characters that ive grown to consider to be one of the most crippling crutches for any character. Especially for a series dialogue heavy as Fire Emblem. With some interactions being out of place or far out stupid. But there are some good supports, Peri's suipports with Kaze and Odin is fantastic. It showes a very different side to her and helps flesh her out without demonstrating how lovely Peri can be sometimes. SHowing she isnt always angry, screaming and bloodthirsty. Buuuuut she did try kill Felicia in her support, which hindered my love for the character.....FELICIA MUST BE PROTECTED

However, Jacob is the frontman of this entire facade. As some conversations i consider to be good. But most often or not, most supports Jacob have usually is just him acting like a complete and total prick. So so that it makes Shinon look like a sweet heart. And poor Felicia is often or not the victim of his strict and prickish behaviour do to her clumsyness. But like the sinister sniper, his prowess on the battlefield showcase he can be fierce and reliable.

As one of Corrin's retainers, it is expected for him to be faithfully loyal to the young lord. However, Jacob takes his duties to a far and almost dangerous degrees of dedication. While his past is definable a tragic one at that, the one thing i feel is he takes his duties far too seriously. And that one simple mistake or failure, that i wouldn't remotely be surprised if he set off a barrage of swear words that would make Gordom Ramsay blush . And when Corrin isnt invovled, he becomes incredibly hostile and touchy towards others like Silas and purposely distance himself from others like Setsuna and act like a total knob! And often getting jealous to the likes of Gunter for having surperior skills and berates his own son for his lazy tendencies. Crafting a usually callous character that didn't sit well with me despite being a skilled fighter on the field. Probably the only reason to keep him.

Innes Heroes

Innes- Sacred Stone[]

A tendancy of characters i dont liek are those that are complete and total jerks, or that their egos or so big, that they believe they are gods. With Innes having both of these issues right off the bat. The Prince of Freila is not only the tactician of Erika's route, but also in a not so friendly rivalry with her brother, Ephraim. With an ego so bad that it makes me want to ring his neck every time he speaks.

Most conversations he have with are about boasting his skills in archery towards others whether it be beating a foreign archer or hitting 3 bullseyes at once. All the words he says sounds incredibly condescending, thus making his romantic conversations coming across as insincere. In one conversation he has the sudden urge to protect Eirka cause he cant stand being in debt to her. But acting like an idiot by standing in front of Erika, despite being the archer and archers having to fight in long range. Innes, swallow your pride and let Erika be in front so she can protect you. You are not a close range fighter.

Suddenly out of left field, he is in love with Erika. Is he just socially awkward? Well if you want a tip, dont tell the girl you like that after your confession that you'll swear to defeat her brother. Or else shes going to just turn you do-WAIT, THEY STILL GOT MARRIED!? HOW!?

Well, Vanessa maybe a better pairing but hes just scowling most of the time. If there's any saving grace is that he is a good unit, which for a promoted unit is expected. But to this , he is hindered by one person....and is the question im going to ask.....Why pick Innes as your main archer when you have Neimi?

Yes, her starting stats aren't great, but invest enough time into her level ups, and she can even easily surpass him in skil She already has much better growtsh in almost all areas minus defense and she can almost promote to either a sniper or ranger. Which would give her the close up defense that Innes doesn't have. Making that defense growth advantage moot. Besides, he only appears early in Erika's story. In Ephraim's side he doesnt even appear till Chapter 15. And funny see him pecocking to Ephraim despite doing have the damage output Ephraim does. though to his extent, its gonna be hard to surpass Ephraims damage

SaulArt

Fire Emblem is no stranger to having shameless Skirt Chases. Blazing Blade had Sain who would flirt with any woman he never met, Awakening and Fates had Inigo who woudl go to war just to win the hearts of girls, 3 houses had Sylvain that flirts with all woman in the monastery and even Ingrid's grandmother at one point, and Gatrie who would flirt with a tree if it was wearing a skirt. Well that certainly brings meaning to the term "Morning Wood".

But Saul is the only character where I found his flirting antics to be downright creepy sometimes. Cause any woman with a single pulse with tangentially abusing his power as a priest just only made it even worse. Fortunatley for this minister of perversion, he manage to prove his worth by being a pretty good magic user and overall good unit. After all, having many healers early on is a blessing in this game. And on hard mode, its needed. Cause god knows how much punishment Marcus would take till he completely fall apart.

Remember how in the joke quote, i compared Saul to Miroku from Inuyasha? Well, its almost the same. Except Miroku has some redeemable aspects and more traits than being a one off perverted priest. As Saul steps in, I shunned his entire demeanor which really broke a lot of limits on how much of him I could take. SInce Saul is a priest, this kind of immodest insolence isnt fitting for a man of the cloth and erased any chances of being likeable with how much he stoops so low. So much id rather take my chances with Oliver

Though, it is kinda hard to blame him. Considering how many beauty's are in binding blade. But there has to be a limit on how much you flirt . Or use the title your suppose to hold in high pre-steam. And when he gets promoted, I fear it sometimes gets to his head.

Cause then, Fire Emblem would have its own answer to Claude Frollo.

Calill

Calill- Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn[]

Just when I thought Innes couldn't get anymore over his head, Calill does everything she does to blows his ego out of the water and burn it in a goddamn hot fire. Seriously, the moment i hated this witch was immediately when you recruit her . She traces into the mercenaries camp and mistakes Ike for a common grunt and when the generall asked for her name, she arrogantly introduces herself and basically looks down and downgrades Ike and gloats on how she is beauty strength and wisdom roled into one. Great just what we need, more egotism!

More importantly, just who exactly is Kalill? She had no reason to join the army other than for attention and fame. Like Innes, she demeans everyone she speaks to but Innes was at least respected as a strategist. Kalill is just a drifter who just demeans everyone in the army whenever she gets the chance and acts like shes even a higher up. And sometimes even to the units own lifestyle. From Makalov's lazyness, to Necenee's lack of manor's or anything she can nag about just for the sake of nagging. Lady you arent even greater than a foot soldier! We already have great mages like Soren, Illyana, Bastian, Tormad.......ok, maybe not Tormad but he's better as a character.

Kalill is just an annoying little princess who doesnt have anything to stand out from the army other than owning a bar. Telmo from Twilight Princes, you aint!

Serra Heroes

Sera- Blazing Blade[]

No! NO! I dont want to do this! NOOOOOOOOOOO-o-o-o-oooooooo........

Look, I like Blazing Blade but its moments like these that make me wish it wasnt my first Fire Emblem Game. That way I wouldn't have to endure this much pain and suffering from the SATANIC MONSTER! As someone who usually likes to keep units alive, Serra is one of the few characters id be willing throw to wolves and be left to DIE!

Why? She's prissie, annoying, completely full of herself, tries to seek attention from everyone, and just never. EVER. SHUTS. UP! We first meet her travelign to Ostia with her escort Erk and you can tell just from how miserable he is. But hey "what about Rennac? He's in a similar scenario with L'Arachel. What makes this any different?". The difference is is how Erk and Rennac are handled. With Erk I feel bad that he has no choice but to put up with this ...this....abomination, while Rennac i dont feel bad considering he didn't even bother to put up with L'Arachel at all. Plus, L'Arachel has a sense of righteousness where Serra is just self absorbed.

Sure id be willing to put up with her so she can heal my team, until Priscilla comes. By than she can bugger off to the bench and sit there for the rest of her life so she can stop making Erk's life HELL. And its not just Erk. Everytime she's around, everyone and I mean everyone does there best to try and avoid her, and dread being in her presences. Most of the supports are centered around her and almost never learn more lore about the person shes talking. to....

But seriously, with how much baggage Erk carries around, he should be nominated as not just employee of the year, but unit of the year. Thankfully Prsicilla is much easier and much better than Serra. Though for as much as I hate Serra with a blood passion......she is nowhere as bad as.....

Dishonorable Mentions[]

Before we get to number 1, let's go over some Dishonorable mentions

Rennac- Sacred Stones[]

Rennac

Just for being greedy, abandoning L'Arachel and his job to protect her and belittling Colm

Naesala- Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn[]

Naesala

For making Reyson's life hell.

FE10 Makalov Artwork

Makalov- Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn[]

Yeah, this was a no brainer if anyone knows me. I already discussed in top 10 fictional characters that I hate on why i have the sudden urge to shove a Rider's Bane up this Cotton Candy head bullocks' down his throat and through the other end. But i guess it must bear repeating. I hat e this stupid, lazy, incompetent, irresponsable piece of crap!

Yes Fire emblem characters are flawed and all have their own problems that make them in depth and memorable, but god of all christ, does Makalov have practically no redeemable qualities that he makes it hell for everyone. Especially his poor little sister Marcia. Some characters have done worse things, sure but their villains. They at least provide some entertainment to what they do, and either get what they deserve or have a sad and understandable motive. Makalov is just a complete and total deadbeat brother.

Being the older brother of his splendid sister Marcia. You would think Makalov would have many traits that Marcia would inherit. But the only thing they share is hair color and don't exactly like each others presence. But in Marcia's case its 100% justified. 'Cause Makalov is a complete BUFFOON! This lazy oaf spends most of his time drinking and gambling till he runs out of booze and bullion. While sometimes being in debt to others which Marcia again has to deal with, while making stupid excuses to getting out of work. Though in Radiant Dawn its better not using him at all, considering he sucks more than black hole on a Sunday morning

Needless to say Marcia isn't happy. Neither is Ike or the rest of the army. No mater how much they ram the message through his thick skull. He never learns, and continues to act like the drunken layabout that he is and spits in the others who at least try to be nice to him. Take his support with Astrid for example. Where she explains that she doesn't have any money to give him after giving it away, he proceeds to act like a total jerk by berating her, and when she does give him her family heirloom herself, Makalov gives it back to her because Marcia demanded him too.

To his credit, Makolov admits he's a complete loser but that doesn't make up for the things he's done and said. Cause despite being in entire duology, he never. EVER. CHANGES. He gains no character development from the past game whatsoever and continues to dig his grave further to act more like a drunken fool

What cemented him here was in Path of Radiance, where in a support conversation. Where Marcia is at her breaking point and on the verge of tears because of the stress he caused her over the years. makalov says that he'll clean up his act and start taking responsibility for his actions. How does he screw it up?

"Say Marcia? You want to know how long I can keep my promise? I'll give you for to one odds"

And that pretty much settled Makalov as #1. Worse than any. ANY Fire Emblem villain has ever done. And it's because of him that Astrid's character story! Seriously she deserves better.
