The ULTIMATE Death Battle Retrospective

Death Battle is a fun show. Take two characters, make them kill each-other, put on your thinking cap to do some math, and maybe smash your keyboard over the result being wrong. This show has existed for a… very long time. And in those many years, it’s had its many up’s and downs. I’m going to be seeing the extents of its quality in this HUGE blog.

In this retrospective, I will be doing everything regarding the episodes… well not literally everything but everything figuratively. In this retrospective, I will be viewing every single episode of Death Battle in random order (most likely hopping around a season list until it‘s complete), in many different ways. I’ll be looking at…

The matchup itself. I’ll give my thoughts on the matchup itself, and give reasons as to why I like or dislike it. The usual matchup discussion format used here on the Wiki.
The episode itself. My thoughts on the episode in two separate parts; analysis/conclusion, and my thoughts on the fight. I’ll give my reasons why I like or dislike the episode, in a more traditional review format like how I reviewed Harley Vs Jinx all the way back at the start of 2022.
Alternatives for the characters in question, as well as new matchups for the series used. For this retrospective, I’m cramming in new matchups for every combatant and every series on Death Battle. However, if it’s a series I have already done on an episode reviewed prior, it will be given another matchup, and combatants from episodes I had already reviewed beforehand will be given another matchup for that episode.
The track that played during the fight. I’ll give my thoughts on the track, say why I like or dislike it (though in far less depth than the others given music is heavily vibe-based).
Seeing where Death Battle scaled the combatants. I’ll look over the analysis and conclusion, recording any stats or potential stats that are said so I can see where exactly they placed each character. All of this will be plugged into a tier list of their exact stats, and I’ll use a bullet point structure that covers all of the relevant stats. Which, let’s be honest, will only be attack potency, speed, and occasionally lifting strength. I’ll also compare them to see what advantages and disadvantages both combatants had. For speed, I’ll be going off their combat, reaction, and sometimes travel speeds, not perception speed.
I’ll be scaling the fight animations myself to see where the combatants scale from the animation. I did start this awhile back but I’ve decided to continue it here, with everything else. These scalings will all be in separate sections like a calc blog, in which they’ll be ranked appropriately in a tier list.
And finally, I’ll use my scores for the analysis, conclusion, and fight, and then find the average between them to get an exact score of the episode. Then, I’ll plug them into a massive tier list that will get updated overtime. Do note that fight scores take far more priority than analysis scores, and if an analysis score badly drags down an episode from where I think it should be that, it will not be taken into account for the rating. This is to prevent occurrences such as Chosen Undead Vs Last Dragonborn, one of my favorite episodes in the show, only being scored around a 7/10 using the average method including the analysis.

This is all the relevant groundwork I will cover. This’ll be a really fun project that will be updated for as long as Death Battle keeps making episodes. And, before we begin, respect my takes and such please. With that being said, this is gonna be a huge project, so sit down and enjoy the read!
