Yugi Muto is one of the main protagonists of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series. He will appear in an upcoming episode of Death Battle, Ash VS Yugi, where he and Yami Yugi will fight against Ash Ketchum and Pikachu from the Pokémon series.
History
Yugi Muto lived in his family's game shop, Kame Game, with his mother and grandfather, Solomon, the latter having taught him everything he knows about the world-famous card game Duel Monsters. Outside of this, Yugi had no friends, usually spending his time attempting to solve the mysterious Millennium Puzzle while also being bullied by Joey Wheeler and Tristan Taylor. But after Yugi stood up for them against their school's hall monitor, the three of them became friends. Soon afterward, Yugi solved the puzzle, making him the host to the spirit of the master Duelist, Pharaoh Atem, otherwise known as Yami Yugi. Yami could take over his body, and with his help, Yugi won a duel against the King of Games, Seto Kaiba, earning the title for himself.
This caught the attention of Duel Monsters creator Maximillion Pegasus, who challenged him to a duel. After a sudden defeat from time running out, Pegasus stole the soul of his grandfather and trapped him in a card as punishment. This prompted Yugi to depart to Duelist Kingdom, where he would defeat Pegasus and reclaim both Solomon's soul and his champion title. Yugi has since accomplished several more momentous achievements, including winning the Battle City tournament, saving the world, and helping Yami regain his memories by defeating Zorc Necrophades once and for all, all culminating in a Ceremonial Battle with Atem. Upon Yugi's hard-fought victory, Atem departed for the afterlife, seeing how far Yugi had come since their fateful meeting. Yugi has since remained a revered Duelist in his own right, having become someone truly worthy of being called the King of Games.
